I was up until 2:30 working on a deal, then I woke up at 4:45 to finish drafting.
At 1 a.m. a different client emailed the general counsel for a company we've been negotiating with to ask when their draft would be ready.
At 2 a.m. the partner on the deal emailed me to say he'd check my work at 5:30 a.m.
At 2:15 a.m. the general counsel emailed back with a draft.
I wanted to cry. WHAT IS WRONG WITH ALL OF US? WAKE UP SHEEPLE.
YES
ReplyDeleteThis is why I am terrified of getting a firm job
Oy. Just oy. It seems insane when you're going through it. It seems even more insane when you leave it behind. I hope you're getting some sleep tonight.
ReplyDeleteYikes, I hope you get some rest!
ReplyDeleteLL: I KNOW. When I was on maternity leave, I remember panicking and thinking, "I can't go back there!" I sent out at least a dozen resumes. I slipped back into it so easily somehow... But you're right. The whole thing is crazy. It's just so big, so pervasive, that it seems impossible to fix.
ReplyDeleteThis is exactly why I would never work for a large firm. Working for a smallish firm where there is true work-life balance is the best decision I've ever made.
