Here's the lineup:
1. Taxation and Regulation of Nonprofits. More tax. Bring it on.
2. Internet law seminar. Professor supplied food at the first class. Readings are both light and interesting. Promises to be an engaging course.
3. Professional Services, a business-school style class about how professional services firms like law firms, consulting firms, and accounting firms are run. Tomorrow is the first day.
4. Race Relations and the Presidential Election of 2008. With one of my favorite professors, who is writing a book and testing out his ideas on us. Purely for fun.
I debated taking Corporate Finance instead of #3 and #4. It would be very useful for my career but it's at 8 a.m. Mondays and Tuesdays, wreaking havoc with our morning routine. I'm thinking about reviewing the slides each week on my own. (We'll see if that actually happens.)
And, last but not least:
5. Internship at the Attorney General's office. Today was my first day. I don't want to write anything that will bring unsavory searchers to my website, but suffice it to say that it's criminal work and the descriptions of the conduct we're concerned about made me feel physically ill. The point of clinicals is to broaden your horizons, right?
It's shaping up to be a pretty laid-back and fun semester, as long as I remember not to overcommit for once. If I ever mention taking on an extra part-time job, research assistantship, not-for-credit course, or extracurricular activity, just give me a smack, okay?
You did the right thing by avoiding Corporate Finance!! You'll have the rest of your career to learn that stuff..and it will be taught to you if you join a firm. What you're taking is much cooler!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely take the fun stuff, you'll get to learn whatever you need to know on the job and no one is going to sit down and talk about race and politics for hours on end. It sounds like a great semester!
ReplyDeleteWow, with that schedule it does seem like it will be an awesome semester. The race relations class sounds so interesting!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a fun semester indeed...if you can call law school fun.
