Back home with the baby

First day home with K: I am exhausted. I have avocado spit on my shirt and dried cereal stuck to my arm. I only have eight days at home alone with him before he goes to practice daycare -- I can handle that. But I'm starting to wish I could locate that maternal instinct that makes me want to abandon my career and spend all day gazing lovingly at my offspring.

Poor K has been teething lately. For the past two nights he's been up hourly, screaming. No fun for anybody. Today I tried a frozen washcloth, but I think it was too cold for him. A cold carrot worked better, but we only had baby carrots so I needed to keep a tight grip on one end. Tomorrow: carrot-buying trip.

Solid food progress: Rice, check. Oatmeal, check. Multigrain cereal (oat, rice, and millet), started today. Sweet potato, he LOVES it. Avocado, tried twice. The first time I thought maybe it was too lumpy and not ripe enough. The second time, I made sure it was perfect and mixed it with a little rice cereal to sweeten it up, but he made faces and spat it out anyway. He did give it the old college try, though. He kept opening his mouth for more until he realized that it was going to be yucky every time.

I need to come up with something outside of the house to do every day or I'll go insane. Today we had a Library Adventure! Tomorrow, possibly a Bus Adventure?

P.S. - JW decided it was Reality TV day. First he watched "Fat March" and now "Supernanny" is on. I used to watch this show and laugh, but now I'm horrified. That might be us one day.
