Dear K,
It's been a big week for you!
Yesterday's big activity was changing your clothes about nine times, which you tolerated surprisingly well. How did you grow out of all your newborn clothes overnight?
We love seeing that smile when you catch a glimpse of Mommy or Daddy, and it cracks me up when you suddenly beam at one of your toys. You even laugh occasionally. The first time, you experimented by opening your mouth wide and making this "BAAAHAAHHHA" noise. By the second and third times, you had the hang of it. You still have one secret smile that nobody has seen except me: a minute or two after you're done nursing, you'll close your eyes and this open-mouthed toothless grin will cross your face. I always wait for it.
You've gotten better at sitting up, and it's one of your favorite things to do at the moment. It gives you a new perspective and a chance to be a little more independent. You can also hold on to things, which, when combined with sitting, lets you play with toys on your own! You mostly just kick and grab at them, but it's a big step up from Daddy shaking a rattle as you lie on your back.
You slept through the night for the first (and second) time this week. "Through the night," for you, means you woke up at 2:45 in the morning. But you went to bed at 8:30. That's over six hours! Mommy got four hours of sleep in a row and felt so refreshed.
You have now met all the closest members of your family: Mommy and Daddy, grandparents, great-grandmothers, aunts, and uncles. And godparents. You have lots of other family members who you'll meet, but these are the people we especially hope you will grow to know and love during your life. They already love you.
What else? Construction is going on at home and it's really been disrupting your routine. You hate the sound of jackhammers blasting through concrete, and I can't blame you.
Your ear hair fell off, but you still have elf ears. Okay, not such a big event. Mommy is reaching now.
We only have five more weekdays at home, just you and me. Then we're going to have all sorts of adventures: a trip out of town, Daddy's thirtieth birthday, your grandmother moving in for the summer, and a new daily routine for everybody. We'll need to adjust. But we'll manage. We're not doing too bad so far.
Love,
Mommy
