Dates to remember

For Columbia: I have to submit my $300 deposit by May 1st. I also have to submit my housing application by May 1st, and I think there's a separate housing deposit. I can select my housing and move in some time during the first two weeks of August. Orientation starts August 15th. The first day of classes is the 16th.

In the unlikely event that I get into Harvard: Orientation doesn't start until September 1 and classes begin on the 6th.

August 15th is sooner than I thought. I planned to leave work at the end of July, but if that will only give me two weeks to move and get ready for law school maybe I should leave earlier.

I haven't really thought through the whole moving thing. If we don't sell our house right away, we'll be paying for two places, which we won't really be able to afford if I'm not working. The only way to avoid that is to sell the house before we leave, which means we should put it on the market by May at the latest. (How long does it take to sell a house? I have no idea. I'm guessing that if it's on the market at the beginning of May, it might sell by the beginning of June and close by the end of July. But that might be overly optimistic?)

I may not hear from Harvard by May, or I may get waitlisted. JW has declared that if I get waitlisted and get into Harvard the day classes start, I'm going. So he won't sell the house unless I get rejected outright. Which means we might be trying to sell the house from New York while I'm in school.

Somehow I avoided thinking about all of this until now, despite Kristine's angst over the same topic. I don't want to think about it now, either. It's all too complicated. All I need to keep in my head for now is May 1st.
